![]() I just try my best to brush off silliness, be calm and be kind. It’s all about not getting distracted by other people’s dramas, of which there have been a few this year. It’s just so funny and the perfect retort to haters. What song(s) will always remind you of 2019? What did you get really, really, really excited about? It’s absolutely fascinating to watch what gets up to when we’re not home. I miss the NHS hard.Ī Nest – for eco/climate reasons and also a camera to monitor Pepe the cat. No, but I have the same feelings towards the American healthcare system and I’m sure that resentment will continue to burn brightly. Thank goodness for my American friends/life advisers. What was your biggest achievement of the year? Meeting my American family – found through 23andme! Getting asked if my accent was fake when dressed as Mary Poppins. Getting stuck in the middle of a NYC blackout. What moments from 2019 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? I will literally never give up on my plans. It’s all about laying the foundations, setting it up and watching your dreams come to fruition because you worked bloody hard at them. This year I wish for more of the same, with the tools to create the future we want. Last year I asked for stability and savings, which I think I achieved nicely. What would you like to have in 2020 that you lacked in 2019? US (several states including Maine and Vermont), UK (for both work trips and family visits), France (family) and Jamaica (YAMAN). I’ve met ‘my people’ and made some great friends who I can geek out with over writing and literature. ![]() It was intimidating going back to education more than a decade after I graduated, but so far it’s proven to be an excellent decision. It’s a low residency Masters involving 10-day spurts of intensive 12-hour day workshops, seminars and presentations, a mentor program and a lot of hard, creative work. I went back to school (university/college) for my MFA in Creative Writing at Stonecoast, Univerity of Southern Maine. The decor is totally bonkers but the food and cocktails are excellent. G and I went to The Oscar Wilde in NYC, the city’s longest (and most literary!) bar. It’s been wonderful reconnecting with my Jewishness in America. For next year, I would like to feel more spiritual and go to Temple more. The WW App seems to be working for me, for now. I’ve definitely got back into the swing of healthy habits now I’ve been living in America for over 18 months, but finding a regular exercise class that I love has proved a challenge. My nutrition was better than 2018 but still up and down. If nothing else, I hope I blinded them all with my speaking voice. ![]() I hate public speaking like that, but something compelled me to down a glass of wine, stand up and read a poem about a bee in a very British accent. What did you do in 2019 that you’d never done before?Ī strange one, but I did open mic to a roomful of 100+ authors, writers and academics.
